BEFORE
Decide if you will stay or evacuate
Complete your hurricane plan and resupply your hurricane survival kit
Review your employer's hurricane plan and know your responsibilities
during the storm
Keep your yard free of debris
Prepare plywood shutters for installation and prepare home for storm
conditions
Prepare boat

WHEN A HURRICANE THREATENS
Designate a "safe room" usually an interior location of the lowest floor,
away from windows
Close all windows and wedge sliding glass doors
Turn your refrigerator and freezer to the coldest settings
Freeze water for cooling food during power outages
Install plywood shutters
Stock up on water
Clear yard of all potential flying debris
Gas up car and get extra cash
If advised to evacuate, be prepared to leave

evacuation routes and designated shelters

DURING A HURRICANE
Stay inside and stay Calm
Saty away from windows
Listen to your NOAA radio

AFTER A HURRICANE
Do not use tap water for cooking or drinking until advised to do so
Use telephone only for emergencies
Do not connect a generator to your home wiring
Stay away from downed power lines and do not cut trees that are
touching or near power lines
Do not drive through or walk through flood waters
Keep children away from playing in standing water and make sure they
are wearing shoes
Video or photograph damage and make temporary repairs to lessen
further damage
Clearly mark street address if needed
Document repairs and keep all receipts
