PITTSBURGH (AP) - Heath Miller and Joey Porter scored
fourth-quarter touchdowns as the Pittsburgh Steelers rallied to
beat the Miami Dolphins 28-to-17 in the N-F-L season opener.
The Dolphins led 17-to-14 until Miller scored on an 87-yard pass
play midway through the final period. Replays showed Miller
stepping out of bounds between the two- and one-yard lines. But
Dolphins coach Nick Saban waited too long to throw his red
challenge flag, which landed behind referee Walt Coleman. None of
the other officials spotted the flag before Jeff Reed hit the extra
point.
Porter clinched the victory by returning an interception 42
yards for a T-D with two-59 remaining.
Charlie Batch threw for 209 yards and three touchdowns in place
of Ben Roethlisberger (RAHTH'-lis-bur-gur), who sat out after
undergoing an appendectomy on Sunday.
Ronnie Brown scored two touchdowns for Miami but was held to 30
yards on 15 carries.
