OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Megan Gibson threw a three-hit shutout and also drove in a run as Texas A&M won its first Big 12 softball
championship by beating Nebraska 5-0 today in Oklahoma City.
Gibson (33-1) allowed three singles and two walks. She never let
a runner get past second base in picking up her 16th shutout of the
season.
The top-seeded Aggies (49-7) took the lead on consecutive
singles by Jamie Hinshaw, Holly Ridley and Erin Glasco to start the
second inning. Macie Morrow added a one-out single to make it 2-0.
Kelsey Spittler added an RBI single, Morrow scored on a wild
pitch and Gibson added a run-scoring groundout as the lead swelled
to five in the fourth inning.
Nebraska (25-27) was the first Number 10 seed to reach the
championship game, but Molly Hill (15-17) couldn't pitch the
Huskers to a fourth straight upset. She allowed five runs on 10
hits.
