Nederland Boys Take 20-4a Cross Country

The Nederland Boys Cross Country team repeated as District 20-4a champs on Thursday at Claiborne Park in Vidor.

Layne Smith nipped teammate Trent Fulk at the wire to win the individual championship by three seconds in a time of 17:47 over the 5,000 meter course.

The Dogs placed six runners in the top nine with Justin Donovan finishing 6th, Kevin Molina 7th, Domingo Flores 8th and Christopher Rodriguez 9th. Also Trevor Martin finished 14th for Nederland.

Nederland scored 17 points, Lumberton was second at 56 points and Ozen is also headed to regionals with a 3rd place finish at 104 points.

On the girls side, Crystal Brindle of Lumberton won the race for the second straight year and her teammate Chelsea Northsworthy finsihed 10th to qualify for regionals.

Livingston won the team title with 60 points, second place PNG had 64 points and the Nederland girls were 3rd at 71 points.

At the 5a meet in Baytown, Ashley Wright of West Brook won the individual title, leading the Lady Bruins to a third place finish and a trip to regionals

The Memorial Lady Titans were second...and will go...

On the Boys side West Brook boys finished second to Channelview to qualify for regionals. Falcons won the team title 42-44 points.
