San Antonio Police Shoot, Kill Man in Standoff

David Ingram

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (AP) - San Antonio police say officers have fatally shot a man after a nearly four-hour standoff.

Police Chief William McManus said the 29-year-old man barricaded himself in an apartment around 6 p.m. Sunday after officers tried to serve a felony warrant.

McManus said negotiators talked to the man before he climbed out of a window, pulled a gun and refused to drop it. McManus said the man was "quickly advancing" on officers before he was shot multiple times.

McManus confirmed a witness account that the man told police during the standoff that he wouldn't go back to jail. The man was wanted for parole violation on a family violence charge.

The man's name hasn't been released. Police say he was alone in the apartment.
