Cattle Herder Missing Near Dayton

David Ingram

DAYTON, Texas (AP) - Boats have been used in the search for a livestock herder who disappeared in Liberty County while moving cattle near the rain-swollen Trinity River.

Searchers planned to resume their efforts Monday.

Dayton police say three men were herding cattle Sunday afternoon to get the livestock to higher ground, as water rose coming off the Trinity River.

Authorities say one of the men rode away from the other two to get behind some cattle. His horse later returned without him.

KTRK-TV reports four boats were used in the search that was suspended around 11:30 p.m. Sunday.
