Tyler Refinery Fire Kills One and Still Burns

Bryan Rupp

TYLER, Texas (AP) - One man has now died of injuries from a Tyler oil refinery explosion and fire.

A spokeswoman for Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas says 49-year-old Dale Sherman of Tyler died of his injuries from Thursday, November 20 explosion at the Delek Refining plant. Spokeswoman Candace White says another worker remains in critical condition at Parkland as of Friday, November 21.

Tyler Fire Capt. Jeff Akin tells the Tyler Morning Telegraph that plant firefighters are monitoring a small residual fire that could burn for days.

Delek Refining President Fred Green says no cause for the explosion and fire has been determined, but the Nashville, Tenn. based company continues its investigation. Meanwhile, production at the 60,000-barrel-per-day refinery is stopped.
