14 Year Old Texan Killed By Train

Bryan Rupp

LONG LAKE, Texas (AP) - A 14-year-old boy has been struck by a train and killed in southwestern Anderson County.

The teen, his 30-year-old stepfather, 11-year-old brother and a 14-year-old friend parked off a county road in Long Lake and walked about half a mile down the railroad tracks to a trestle, where the accident occurred about noon Saturday, November 15, according to a report in the Palestine Herald-Press.

The group was out shooting, said Anderson County Chief Deputy Troy Black. They were almost to the opposite end of the trestle when the accident occurred.

"When the train came around the bend, everybody laid down," Black said, "but this one boy didn't make it. There's very little room."

The boy's name was not immediately released.

Long Lake is a rural community about 11 miles southwest of Palestine.
