Houston Marine killed in Afghanistan

The Defense Department on Tuesday identified Marine killed while supporting combat operations in Afghanistan as a 29-year-old Houston man.

The Pentagon statement says Staff Sgt. Edgar A. Heredia died Thursday in Farah province in western Afghanistan. As per Marine Corps custom, the statement contained no details on the circumstances surrounding the Marine's death.

Heredia was assigned to 2nd Marine Special Operations Battalion, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command.
