BROWNSVILLE, Texas (AP) - A mother and her three daughters will remain in federal custody after a federal judge ruled against their request for bail.

The Brownsville Herald reported for today's editions the four women are being held in connection to a more than one million dollar cocaine smuggling case.

The judge determined that the suspects had no residential ties in Brownsville and could be considered "flight-risks."

The suspects are 59-year-old Maria Venegas Viuda de Trevino and her daughters -- 31-year-old Laura Trevino, 27-year-old Evelia Trevino and 23-year-old Adrianna Trevino.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials arrested the women at the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge June 18 when agents recovered cocaine to be worth approximately 1.164 million dollars in street value.

Agents testified three of the women wore "girdles" underneath their clothing with cocaine packages hidden inside.
