McKinney mother devastated by deadly car crash

PLANO, Texas (AP) - Devastation and grief.

That's what Pamela Palmer of McKinney, Texas is experiencing after two of her children were killed Sunday in a car crash that claimed the lives of three others, the woman's attorney said Monday.

Attorney John M. Cooper said Palmer is "distraught about what happened. She was at the hospital where one of them had been taken," The Dallas Morning News reported for its Tuesday editions.

Palmer is the birth mother of two foster children, 5-year-old Raven Lucas and Kavinnesha Palmer, 6, who died along with their foster family, Geoff Hart, his wife, Christy and their 12-year-old daughter Rebekah.

Plano police are still trying to determine whether to file charges against the man involved in the fatal crash. Police said David Calhoun Jones, 46, of Metairie, La., was driving fast in a rented black Pontiac when he ran a red light at Legacy Drive and Custer Road. The crash happened as the Plano family and their foster children were on their way home from church Sunday morning.

Police said Jones was in critical condition at an area hospital.

Police said investigators would get a search warrant for the data recorder from the Pontiac to determine the speed of the vehicle at the time of impact. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash, police said.
