Nobody hurt in derailment near Pearland

Brian Burns

PEARLAND, Texas (AP) - It could have been a sticky situation.

But no corn syrup spilled and nobody was hurt in a derailment in the Houston area.

Emergency crews worked into the night to clean up the mess near Pearland.

Officials say a Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway train derailed late yesterday, with eleven cars going off the tracks and seven overturning.

Authorities say the cars -- hauling corn syrup -- were part of a nearly 70-car train bound for Laredo.

The cause of the derailment is sought.

BNSF is based in Fort Worth.
