News KBMT

12 News has learned that a United States Army Soldier from Nederland was among the servicemen who heard the gunfire from a tragic mass shooting at Fort Hood.

Private E-3 David Alcini was ordered to arm himself and move across a street to try to stop the rampage.

The video attached to this story (which can be seen by clicking the video box directly or the WATCH THE VIDEO link) is from Fort Hood where 12 people were killed and 31 were wounded in one of the nation's deadliest attacks ever on a military base.

Private Alcini is preparing to deploy to Afghanistan in just days.

Thursday, Alcini was involved in combat here at home. And he was actually on the phone with his mother when he heard the gunfire.

Alcini's Mom and Dad, Ray and Juanita Alcini from Nederland, joined 12 News anchors Jackie Simien and Kevin Steele in studio on the 10p.m. news to shared what happened.
