Residents Along Sabine Prepare For Major Flooding

Meteorologist Bryan Rupp

There hasn't been rain in Southeast Texas for a few days but one community is in high water. The Sabine River is steadily rising and residents in Deweyville say they are preparing for a major flood.

Deweyville residents down FM 4156 are drowning in their worries and the National Weather Service says this is serious.

This year's flood is expected to be comparable to the flood of 1989.

The extremely heavy rain from the last 15 days has over-filled the Toledo Bend Reservoir and the over-flow gates on the dam have to be open.

As of Sunday night the level at Toledo Bend is within nine inches of the all-time record high.

Sand bags are ready to go but some say they will not do them any good.

The river will continue to rise for the next several days so residents on FM 4156 say they will either ride the wave or run for higher ground.
