Local Business Protecting Sailors From Pirates

News KBMT

A security company in Orange, TX is expanding its business.

Eye On Security Systems opened up shop in Orange 14 years ago. Now they've partnered up with two other U.S. companies to offer protection for international shipping freighters. Hijackings in U.S. waters are rare, but international waters are a different story, like the pirates off the coast of Somalia.

The Triton Security Shield is made up of three parts. Eye On builds remote controled cameras and an invisible fence-line alarm. Crew members are alerted to exactly where an intruder is and how many pirates are aboard.

The second line of defense is a giant wall of water surrounding the ship. Ocean water is dumped down at 125-pounds per square inch... That's enough water to sink a 14'-boat in less than two minutes. The wall of water makes it virtually impossible for someone to climb aboard.

The ship is also equipped with bulletproof shields in case of gunfire. Finally, the security system offers a bulletproof, impenetrable safe-room for crew members to hide in.

Eye On Security says they're going through a growth spert, which could mean more available jobs and tax dollars for the city.

The Triton Security System was recently tested off the coast of Puerto Rico. Eye On Security says those tests were successful and that they hope to have a final product ready for sale soon.
