A sonar search of an infamous streach of canal in Port Arthur has located two submerged vehicles and there could be more.

17 cars are believed to have gone into the canal between highway 73 and highway 82 over the years.

At the request of the city's fire chief, Texas Equusearch Company out of Dickinson, Texas is conducting a sonar search of the 3 and a half mile long section of canal.

Police and those with missing family members have wanted to search the waterway for years to determine if it is a watery grave for many long lost missing persons.

Fire department divers investigate every sonar sighting.

Earlier Saturday they pulled a white pickup truck out of the water.

The contractor's truck had been reported stolen two years ago from Nederland.

Then late in the afternoon, divers found another submerged vehicle.

Cheryl Lawless with EquuSearch tells KBMT channel 12 news the company is aware of at least one unsolved missing person's case from Carrolton near Dallas, but it's too soon to know whether there is any connection.

Lawless says the search and dive teams will return in the morning to search the remaining mile or so of the canal.
