Additional Heavy Rainfall Possible

Meteorologist Patrick Vaughn

Heavy rains fell across Southeast Texas overnight.  Pinpoint Doppler Radar estimates between eight and nine inches of rain fell in Tyler County between Woodville and Colmesneil over to Polk County.  At least six inches fell in Jasper and Newton Counties south of Jasper and Newton.

A front has stalled near Lufkin.  A southerly flow off the Gulf of Mexico is converging just ahead of the front causing additional development of showers and thunderstorms.  Heavy rainfall of up to two inches per hour are possible today across Southeast Texas.

With the front retreating northward tonight, the heavy rain threat should diminish.

Over the weekend, scattered showers and thunderstorms are forecasted due to mainly afternoon heating.

The Bermuda High in the middle layers of the atmosphere will build westward into our area Monday and Tuesday.  This will boost afternoon high temperatures into the middle-nineties.  Rain chances will almost be non-existant.
