News KBMT

A sheriff's deputy who paid the ultimate sacrifice was remembered in Southeast Texas on Friday, July 17, 2009.

Hundreds of family, friends and law enforcement officers gathered at a Mont Belvieu Church to pay their respects to Deputy Shane Detwiler.

The 31-year old deputy died in the line of duty Monday after responding to a call of "shots fired" on a meter reader.

Detwiler joined the army when he was 17 and spent six years with Texas Parks and Wildlife before becoming a deputy just a few months ago.
