A pair of burglars are in an Austin, Texas jail after one of them shot himself in the foot. Kelly Roan,28, was driving when his gun discharged, causing him to lose control of his car and crash.

An off-duty firefighter witnessed the crash and rushed in to help Roan and his passenger, 20-year-old Casey Dixon.

While he was assisting the pair the firefighter says he heard them arguing about who should accept responsibility for the gun, then heard Dixon tell Roan to "get rid of the other stuff".

The firefighter then witnessed Dixon throw the gun and several other items over the edge of the elevated highway where the crash had occurred.

When police arrived they found the gun, several stolen credit cards and other documents linked to a series of recent burglaries.

Doan and Dixon now face charges that in ten years in prison and fines totaling $20,000.
