The headline state ATV accident when in the opening paragraph of the article states it was a homemade go-cart. Is this more than a subtle attempt at bashing the use of off-road vehicles again? Or does the writer simply not know the difference....i think the former!

I'm pretty sure that a go-cart of any type, whether homemade or not, would be considered an ATV. Regardless of that fact, I can only imagine what his family is going through. They are certainly in my thoughts.

I dont think it makes a freakin difference what it was, the kid is dead. Bunch of dumb a**es

No actually it does matter. I agree with neill. This is an attempt to characterize ATV's as dangerous vehicles. A go-cart is not an ATV. And the fact that its a "homemade go-cart" is that much worse! I feel for the childs family its a tragedy but its like guns. Guns dont kill people, people with guns kill people. Well ATV's dont kill people, people who have no respect for the ATV's kill people. Why was a homemade go cart on the streets to begin with?

It doesn't matter what the hell it was. It could have been a shopping cart for all I care. Someone lost a son today, let's not take the focus off of that. ALL and I mean ALL vehicles are dangerous. Knowledge is power! Educate yourselves. And say a prayer for the family.

I have never understood the facination of the 3&4 wheeler ATVs or the go-carts in places not suitable for them. I've ridden and owned Harley-Davidsons for 30 yrs. and love to "streach'em" out, but never in places not meant to be. Crazy enough just riding to work everyday and have "Macho" or "Cell Phone" try to kill ya.

Oh my gosh. this is not the time to bring your political views here. If you rally are bothered by the laws then do something about it instead of airing them here. Somebody lost a son, brother, nephew, cousin, grandson and friend, that is what you should be thinking about. My heart goes out to them and pray for continued healing of their hearts.

Kathy, they may be ignorant as far as the differences between the two but that doesn't make them dumb. For those not understanding the difference, ATVs are All-Terrain Vehicles which means they can handle a wider variety of terrain (typically hills and dirt, not concrete or asphalt) than normal bicycles, motorcycles, etc. Typical ATVs have 3 or 4 wheels. Go-carts sit very close to the ground and are used for racing. Riders are sitting strapped into a seat like a race car instead of straddled.

Also, homemade go-carts are not unusual. Think of old soapbox carts only motorized. To those who say it doesn't matter what type of vehicle it was remember, ignorance is dangerous. A person who doesn't know what a loaded gun is but encounters one is more dangerous than someone who does know the power of a gun. Let's pray for the spirit of this child and educate each other instead of resorting to childish name calling and finger pointing.

I think a go cart or ATV would be better off then a plastic POS Saturn car in a accident, anyway sorry that a kid has passed away. ride safe

Neil, i agree with you. i think the headline atv was a tastless attempt to draw readers, not covey accurate information. And to answer your question, you ride a harley on the open road because the bike is designed to go there, and because you have a license. not so a teen with a go-cart, and that is why they ride in paking lots. God bless him and his family in this trying time.

Driving ANYTHING small and fast near parked cars is an accident waiting to happen. Especially with kids who don't always pay attention.

Should of been wearing a helmet, and he must of been really inexperienced driver to crash into a parked car? Come on it is not that hard to see a parked vehicle.

Oh kids these days, never mature enough to drive a fast car and respect it, or go and respect a piece of machinery like that they are not TOYS!

Ok, this is silly. Instead of making it a law to not be able to ride any sort of motored vehicle, i.e, 4 wheeler, go cart, dirt bike, etc. They should provide a place for young kids to go ride their "toys" in a safe environment. I went to school with Djuan, he wasn't stupid, so excuse you all who were trying to refer to him as that, he was far from it. My classmate has passed away, I'd only want positive input toward him. Rest in Paradise Moon, you're forever gone, and always in our hearts.

I dont think it matters what the kid was driving, I think its a wake up call..he is dead at 15. He is a baby. The accidents with cars and what not with kids now is beyond control..just a couple days ago five teens died in michigan hit by a train. Regardless if it was a ATV or a car, they are getting hurt. There has to be a better way to keep these kids and teens safe...its horrible reading daily on the news all the deaths related to this type of things. My prayers goes out to the family.

According to the local news that night the go-cart was homemade and did not have brakes on it. He had to downshift to stop it

Good lord people... it was an unfortunate accident. Kids have been building these things forever and kids never use common sense... especially boys. They just think about what's fun. I think we just hear about it more now because of all the news available on the internet countrywide as opposed to in your own neighborhood like years ago.

Anonymous you make a great point. I want to first off make it clear that this is a tragic situation and terrible for this family. The five teens in Michigan were riding with an idiot who passed two stopped vehicles and went around the RR guards and got hit, killing all in the vehicle. The 19 year old driver had an extensive driving record! These kids have no respect for what they have in their control. And this 15 year old should have never been allowed on the streets! I hope this is a wake up!

channel 12 must have been misinformed. it was an atv; a hand crafted four wheeler. he was doing what most 14/15 year old boys have been doing for many, many years - exercising his mechanical curiosity. he wasn't doing anything wrong; he certainly wasn't bothering anyone, just enjoying his hobby. our thoughts and prayers are with the family, may God bless and keep you during this tragic time..
