No Electricity Creates Baby Boom

News KBMT

At Memorial Hermann Baptist Hospital in Beaumont there has been an unusual spike in new born babies. In fact one day last week, a dozen babies were delivered.

Michael Seiden has the story.

Since May, Baptist Hospital, has seen 262 deliveries which is a 20 % from 2008.

Just across town at Christus St. Elizabeth-its the same story-220 babies.

Doctors say it's all part of the Hurricane Ike baby boom. They say the number is continuing to increase. The increase has forced hospitals to turn checkout rooms into delivery rooms.

At The Medical Center of Southeast Texas located in Port Arthur, doctors saw a 13% increase in new born babies last month compared to 2008.

There's nothing else to do and people forget their birth control," said Kelly Darden a nurse at Baptist. "boredom and it's dark."

Darkness that's given thousands new light.

lol sometimes it is just when cable is out longer than 24 hours. You can read a book with a flashlight folks . After hurricanes, it is too hot to even sleep, where do they find such energy? heat makes many sluggish.
