Accidental drowning is the official rulling now in the death of a 20 month old boy.
The family was visiting relatives in Kirbyville for the holiday.
Our Brian Burns says the boy drowned in a relative's pool.
Father Ron Foshage says; "The mother just went berzerk. The mother grabbed the baby and tried to breathe life back into the baby. It was heart-breaking. Everyone in the room was broken up."
Foshage says he met the family of 20 month old Rudolfo Briz at Jasper Memorial Hospital.
Police reports say authorities were called to the Kirbyville home on 3rd Street at about 6:30 Sunday when some visiting family discovered the toddler's body at the bottom of an above ground pool.
The family told police most of them had been swimming and believed the toddler was with another family member.
When they began searching for the child, Rudolfo's body was found.
Hardin County Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Becky Cleveland says; "They transported him to the hospital and I think they worked with him for probably about an hour at the hospital."
But despite their efforts the child was pronounced dead just after 8:30 p.m.
While the family was too distraught to talk to us on camera, the justice of the peace reminded parents of any small children in Southeast Texas you have to keep an eye on them in this very hot weather of ours. "You take every precaution. The little ones can get away from you in just a split second. You know you can never be too cautious."
Father Foshage agrees saying he constantly reminds his congregation to get swimming lessons for the kids and learn how to save them. " And I had to go out and meet the family and nothing you can say is enough. They all wanted to know why. And God did not take this little baby. It was just a tragedy that happened."
A private funeral service was Rudolfo Briz was held Monday evening in Kirbyville.

I'm sorry for their lose, such a terrible thing to happen and may god be with them. But, how does a 20 month old get in an above ground pool and no body know? Why wasn't everyone watching out for him? I never took my eyes off mine when they were in or near water. Kids move faster than you think.
