Dry Conditions Create Water Issues for SETX

David Ingram

Southeast Texas municipal employees are working fast and furious trying to keep up with problems caused by our area’s heat wave.

Officials with the Beaumont Water Utilities Department says on a normal day the city faces between 2 to 5 water line breaks. Workers Thursday were dealing with 12 waterline breaks by noon.

The news isn’t all bad for area cities. The hot weather can be a moneymaker if it doesn’t last long. Groves City Manager D. E. Sosa says the city has had higher than normal revenues from water bills because of high water usage. Sosa says although it has been a benefit to the his city so far, even the best water lines can begin to fail. Water lines in Groves that have so far held up could end up costing the city when they break; something that is a real possibility of there is not a change in the weather.

KBMT spoke with Scott Hall at the Lower Neches Valley Authority about the area’s water supply. Hill says there is plenty of water, but conservation is always a good idea.
