Port Neches Woman Leaves Huge Gift to PN-G Athletic Department

David Ingram

A huge gift to the Port Neches Groves athletic department is made possible by a woman who stipulated in her will that the gift be made in the name of her late son.

Eilene Patricia Nolen died unexpectedly on April l, 2009. The Port Neches resident was born in North Dakota but moved to southeast Texas in the late 1950’s serving in the Jefferson County Sheriff’s office for 26 years.

Nolen’s will outlined a gift to the PN-G Athletic department in the name of her son Steve who died in a tragic accident at age 18. His death came shortly after his graduation in 1983. Steve played football for PNG.

According to public documents, Wednesday at 1 p.m. Port Neches Trustees will accept a $97,264.32 gift from Nolan’s estate.

Jill, she left it to the athletic dept. Your comments about where you "think" it should go do not matter. Will your legacy to whatever you would like, but Nolen, gave her money to athletics... PERIOD. If you want a big mac, buy a big mac. DSNB

This is an amazing way for her to remember her amazing son. I grew up and went to school with Steve from elementary school through high school and he was a great young man. We unfortunately lost him very soon after our graduation. She was a mother who gave her all to her son and now in death is giving her all again in his memory. Helping him to continue to live on in what he loved doing on earth. What an amazing way for him to be remembered.

thank you dwayne...that's why people have wills!!! they can donate money to whatever they want- it's theirs. Quit whining about something that is not your concern. How about a THANK YOU and you donate your money to the cause you like

She probably did it because Steve, my classmate, had always wanted to play football at PNG and he gave it everything he had. Maybe if his life hadnt been cut so short he would have had the chance to shine in an arena other than football and she would have made a different choice. I cant imagine losing a child at that age and I cant imagine the pain she has felt for the last 26 years. When I die I will give my money where my heart tells me to, like Ms. Nolen did!

I think that is a wonderful contribution to PNG. I have one concern.. Our athletic department is booming with new projects already. I am sure our educational department or music or drama department could use some of that money. I know we pride ourselves on our SPIRIT at PNG for our athletics, but please, there are other influencial and life altering departments in the school district that I am sure could put that money to good use. I am very pleased at the generosity of this kind women thank you
