AT&T Worker Who Revived 3-Year-Old Refuses Title of Hero

News KBMT

UPDATE Tuesday 10 p.m.

An AT&T worker saved a child from drowning Monday in Vidor.

He's being called a hero.

Our Brian Burns talks to the telephone lineman about the accident.

"I was just a person who God put in the right place at the right time," says 52 year old Bobby Flick.

Flick has been working for AT&T for over 30 years and was working on Willow Bend Road in south Vidor when he saw a family pull the lifeless body of a 3 year old girl from the family's swimming pool.

Flick says, "So I ran over to see if I could assist them and I ended up performing CPR on her. And thank God she came back."

Flick credits his AT&T safety training.

The family said they only turned around for a moment when the little girl went under water and didn't come back up.

Although declining to go on camera, the mom tells us she hopes to meet up with Flick one day to thank him herself for saving her little girl.

For life-saving lessons for yourself or even swimming lessons for the kids, you can always come to the Vidor city public pool.

Most of the parents in Vidor we talked with had one piece of advice... Don't let the little ones out of your sight.

Janize Shuf, a Vidor resident says; "I teach summer school and I have to teach the younger children. And they can slip out real quickly."

Resident Charity Murray says, "How quickly something like that can happen, turning your back for a minute and thinking everything's okay and it not be."

Orange ESD #1 fire chief Jerrry Aldridge says, "Don't leave them alone. Don't let them take a bath by themselves, don't let them in the kitchen by themselves to drink a glass of water by themselves."

But Bobby Flick says he didn't feel like a hero while he was saving the little girl's life. "She was a little girl that needed some help but to somebody, she was their world."

You can contact your local Red Cross for information on life saving courses or swimming lessons.

PREVIOUS POST;

The parents of a 3-year-old girl are breathing a little easier after a very close call involving their child Monday.

Orange County Sheriff's Department tells KBMT12 the little girl was swimming in the family's back yard on Willow Bend Road in Vidor. He said the family was in an above-ground pool when the parents turned away momentarily. At one point the girl failed to come up for air, forcing the parents into action.

Deputy Chad Hogan tells KBMT the parents quickly rescued her from the pool.

The parents of the little girl tell KBMT12 News that Bobby Flick, an AT&T worker who was working in a nearby lot, came over and performed CPR, reviving the girl.

Deputy Chad Hogan said EMT showed up shortly after and then transferred the baby to Christus Hospital St Elizabeth, where she is doing fine.

If you can't see them, you can't save them. Watch your child at all times and if they cannot swim, ALWAYS have a USCG approved lifesaving vest on them.

I think the AT&T worker should receive a Medal of Honor for saving this child and having the CPR knowledge!

why would you turn around, even momentarily, while your 3 year-old is swimming? sounds like this could have all been avoided if the parents had been doing their job.

To all those that are being critical of these parents.....accidents do happen. Try to be compassionate for these people. I'm sure they are devestated by what happened.

God had nothing to do with this. Mr. Flick was in the right place at the right time. Why would god save this child and not the child who was killed by the snake? Thank you, Mr. Flick for learning CPR!

I do have a life, and I agree that everything happens for a reason but a god has nothing to do with it. God isn't allowed to control anything on Earth - Satan controls Earth. If god can control things, babies wouldn't die horribly. This is a public forum, open to anyone. You can't just order people to be quiet, Erica.

Parlemort: kudos to you for finally speaking what's REAL! So many people are ashamed to express such views and others hide behind religion, for social and political reasons. DON'T go anywhere!...Erica can't speak for all of us, some of us have a voice and an opinion of our own!

Wow! Where did you come from Parlemort? Don't you know that the same GOD who CREATED this earth, has ALL POWER? And you say that God is not allowed to control the earth, that satan is? YOU have every right to be WRONG. GOD DOES HAVE CONTROL OF EVERYTHING, except an unsubmitted life. GOD will not force us to submit to HIM. HE just allows us the opportunity. Oh!and by the way,God even holds the wind in his fist and controls the waves of the sea.Sounds like A MIGHTY GOD to me. We'll soon find out.

I came from my parents, not from some imaginary father-figure in the sky. Your god has all power? Then why do babies die every day in hot cars? What kind of an all powerful god would ignore the cries of a baby locked in a hot car? You are a perfectly brainwashed christian. I know that you were forced to go to church from the time you were an infant. You have no choice but to believe. You're lost. They stole your trust in yourself. Good day.
