Groundbreakings and Grand Openings Abound in Silsbee

David Ingram

Business is booming in Silsbee and city leaders say it appears its economy is headed for some pretty green pastures.

City Manager Tommy Bartosh tells KBMT 12 news groundbreakings, grand openings and planning have been happening across the city. Chain restaurants including Jack in the Box and Novrozsky's have chosen to open shop. Novrozsky's opened about a week and a half ago. An independent Mexican restaurant called Mi Pueblo has also chosen to open on 327 east in Silsbee. A slab poured in Silsbee last week will soon be home to a Walgreen's.

Bartosh says each business, in addition to serving the citizens of Hardin County, will increase the tax revenue of Silsbee.

"The exact dollar amount is impossible to tell now, but will certainly be beneficial to the city," said Bartosh.

The Census Bureau shows the population of Silsbee in 2003 was 6,498. The city's web page says it has grown to 7,341. Bartosh says the opening of an 80-unit apartment complex is nearing with hopes of luring even more families to the city.

Wow! If Silsbee is booming this much, wouldn't it be great to open a PUBLIC Swimming Pool so kids and parents can work up a hefty appetite to enjoy all the fast food restaurants? We have places to eat, but very few AFFORDABLE places for kids to play in the summer.

The problem that i have with Silsbee is that it still needs new major hotel chain such as Holiday Inn Express and Hampton Inn and Suites because there are travelers zooming up and down the highway 96 bypass and they do need a quick stop for lodging.Even Kountze has a Super 8 and Lumberton has a La Quinta Inn .What's wrong with Silsbee? Why can't they get their act together and stop stalling on having just on the Pinewood Inn.It's no wonder why i left that rathole Silsbee.Yall town really blows
