Undercover Houston Police Officer Killed

News KBMT

HOUSTON (AP) - A shootout in Houston left an undercover officer and a suspect dead.
Police Chief Harold Hurtt early Wednesday said 42-year-old Officer Henry Canales was an outstanding officer and individual.
Another officer fatally shot the suspect Tuesday night.
Authorities say Canales, a Houston police officer since 1993, was shot while in the parking lot of a drug store during an investigation of the sale of stolen televisions.
Houston police spokesman Victor Senties says money was exchanged with undercover officers when the buyer shot Canales.
Senties says another officer tried to take the gunman into custody when the suspect fired at least twice. The second officer, who was not hit, shot the suspect.
Senties says the suspect was dead at the scene. Three other suspects who drove away were later caught.
