Penny-Wise Drug Suspects Face Federal Drug Charges

Two men from Beaumont and 1 from China are facing federal drug charges after leading police on a chase Monday night.

Major Jim Singletary, who heads the Jefferson County narcotics office, says around 6 p.m. Monday deputies and officers with the Beaumont Police Department Street Crimes unit were working together and noticed 3 men in a parked Chevrolet Avalanche at a car wash in the north end of Beaumont. The men appeared to be passing something around inside the truck. When officers approached the vehicle, the truck sped off.

Police were able to stop the truck, but the men refused to get out. Deputies had to break out the windows to take the men in custody.

Inside the vehicle officers found 48 grams of crack cocaine in 5 different “cookies.” This is a solidified form of crack cocaine in a disk-like shape, resembling cookies. Major Singletary says the evidence demonstrates that even southeast Texas drug dealers are feeling the pinch of a bad economy.

“Back in the 80’s a cookie of crack cocaine was 28 grams, but apparently the economy is effecting everybody and your lucky to get a cookie containing 14 oz,” said Singletery.

All three suspects arrested are facing federal drug charges.

right on, also why not shame these dealers by showing their faces , could be a good deterrent for more crimes. Who would want to do business with them after they have been seen?
