Lamar University; BISD Awarded Federal Funds Totaling $284k

Lamar University and the Beaumont Independent School District will soon receive grant money from the Federal Government.

According to Congressman Ted Poe’s Office, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded Lamar University with $34,528 for the Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students program. This program provides scholarships to full-time, financially needy students from disadvantaged backgrounds, enrolled in health professions and nursing programs.

In addition, Lamar University also received $4,767 for the Advanced Education Nursing Traineeship in May.

BISD is slated to receive $244,756 in funding from HHS for the Head Start program. The Head Start program provides grants to local public and private non-profit and for-profit agencies to provide comprehensive child development services to economically disadvantaged children and families, with a special focus on helping preschoolers develop the early reading and math skills they need to be successful in school.
