Police Say 37-Year-Old Woman Tried To Drive Over Officer

David Ingram

A Port Arthur Police Officer fired 2 shots at a vehicle that witnesses say appeared to try to run over him.

Shortly before 1 a.m. Tuesday an officer was investigating a hit-and-run accident in the 7700 block of Heatherbrook Trail. While on the scene, the suspect vehicle involved in the hit-and-run was spotted approaching the area. The car was moving at a high rate of speed. When the officer and accident witnesses moved to get out of the way, the driver swerved toward the officer.

A news release from the Port Arthur Police Department says the officer fired 2 shots, striking the suspect vehicle. The car did not stop.

Officers later stopped the car in the 7600 block of Twin City highway and the driver was taken into custody. She is identified as Brandie Hinson, 37, of Port Arthur.

Police say they plan to file attempted capital murder charges against Hinson.
