Accused Silsbee Internet Predator In Custody

David Ingram

On Tuesday 22-year-old Jason Clay Gilbert turned himself into Silsbee Police. Gilbert is now facing a felony charge of "sexual performance by a child."

Investigators say for the last year Gilbert has exchanged text messages, photos and emails with a 15-year-old girl from Massachusetts. Police say he met the girl in an online chat room and intended to persuade her into sexual activity.

"He admitted and confessed to the allegations," said Silsbee Police Chief Dennis Allen.

After receiving a phone call from police in Massachusetts, Silsbee Police launched a two week investigation where they seized two computers, a cell phone and a flash drive.

The evidence will be turned over to a forensic unit for further investigation.

Detective Jeff Curl is part of a Beaumont unit that investigates sex crimes against minors.

Curl says there have been more than a dozen cases reported in Southeast Texas in the last two years.

"We have our own problem locally,"said Curl.

According to The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, 1 in 4 children between ages 10 and 17 have experienced an unwanted exposure to sexually explicit pictures online.

Silsbee Police Chief Dennis Allen says Gilbert could also face federal charges. For now he's posted a $50,000 bond.

I don't know Jason but I know his wife. She is a lovely girl from a lovely family. I read that Jason was communicating with the girl in question for 3 years. He has only been married for 2 year. His poor wife didn't know what she was getting into. I know that she was raised in a very loving and somewhat sheltered environment. She was guilty of being naive but nothing more. Please give your support and prayers to her. She is young and caught up in this terrible storm.

Hoo Don, why in the h e double el hockeysticks did a 22 yr. old man keep conversing with a 15 yr. old girl for a whole year on the net for? I'll tell you why, he was luring this young woman into a sexual encounter. And it doesn’t matter about the girl! Bad judgment is failing to look both ways before crossing the road. You know – stuff like that. What he did was criminal.

We don't have to wait until he's found guilty in court. Didn't you read the article..."He admitted and confessed to the allegations,"

he may have been a wonderful friend to you but obviously he was hiding a dark secret from everyone. usually if they arrest someone on theses charges, they have significant evidence. Haven't seen too many people arrested on these charges that were ACTUALLY innocent!

I bet she's no saint either. The man made a BIG MISTAKE,and used BAD JUDGEMENT,when he fell for her gestures.

Without details should we be so quick to judge? Not saying what he did was right. It was wrong and I'm sure he knows that, however, he's 22, still just a kid himself. Think about that being your son or daughter that made such a huge mistake!

He 22 alright. I had a class with him at LIT. Can't believe I was sitting next to a pervert.

please tell me he's really not 22! He looks about 42. No wonder the loser had to get some through the internet.

That’s a nice photo of that 16 year-old your son or daughter has been chatting with on the internet. Parents should pay more attention to what their children are doing while online. The guy needs to have his %$#& removed.
