Sulphur Man Killed

A Sulphur man was killed Wednesday, April 29, 2009 when his vehicle pulled out into the path of another vehicle at the intersection of Hwy 1133 and Hwy 108 south of Sulphur.

Killed was Dennis D. Labbie, 58, from Sulphur. Labbie was wearing his seatbelt when the vehicle he was driving pulled out into the path of a vehicle driven by Amanda Billiot, 44, from Hackberry. Labbie was transported to West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Billiot was also transported to West Calcasieu Cameron hospital with moderate injuries.

According to investigators from Troop D, on April 29 at around 5:46 PM, a 2005 Pontiac Vibe, driven by Dennis D. Labbie ,58, from Sulphur was traveling north on highway 1133. Labbie was stopped at the stop sign on highway 1133 , attempted to make a left turn onto highway 108 and was struck in his driver's side door by a 2004 Chrysler, driven by Amanda Billiot, 44, from Hackberry. Billiot was traveling east on highway 108 in the inside lane when the 2005 Pontiac Vibe pulled out in front of her vehicle.

Toxicology tests are pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. The crash remains under investigation.
