Glorious Gardens Flourish Again At Shangri La, 6 Months After Ike

News KBMT
Bryan Rupp

The Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center in Orange re-opened to the public on Saturday, March 7, 2009.

The re-opening is nearly six months after operations were suspended due to damage as a result of Hurricane Ike. During the period of post-hurricane closure, the Shangri La team worked to restore the gardens by replacing many damaged or destroyed plants and adding thousands of new plants.

In addition, the thousands of birds known for nesting in Shangri La's Ruby Lake have returned in great numbers.
