Bryan Rupp

Beaumont Police late Sunday, December 7 released the name of the 10-year-old killed in last nights tragic accident at the end of the Beaumont Christmas Parade.

10-year-old Aaliyah Carter is the young girl who was killed after falling and being run over by a parade float.

Beaumont Independent School District spokesperson Jolene Ortego tells KBMT 12 News that Carter attended Homer Elementary School in Beaumont.

Contrary to earlier reports, according to witnesses, the accident happened after the girl was running alongside the truck and tripped over another girl.

Witnesses also tell KBMT 12 News that the driver, unaware the girl was in the road, proceeded forward crushing the girl under the parade floats wheels.

Carter was pronounced dead on arrival at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital from severe head wounds.

Carter was aboard one of two floats sponsored by the I-Rule Dance Studio in Beaumont.

Before the parade, the girls had been performing at the Beaumont Civic Center during the Very Merry Main Street Market.

The accident occurred in the staging area as the children were about to get off the float and truck.

The driver of the truck towing the float was taken to police headquarters for statements but no charges have been filed.

A fund will be set up to help the family at Capitol One Bank.
