Southeast Texas Refinery Fined Over Half-Million Dollars

A portion of the funds to be used to pay for Environmental Projects

Total Petrocleum in Jefferson County will have to pay a $529,300 Texas Commission on Environmental Quality fine. The company is one of 123 regulated entities issued fines Wednesday for violations of state environmental regulations.

According to a TCEQ news release, a portion of the money collected by the state will be used to fund pollution-reducing programs.

Other local facilities fined include the Dupont Sabine Water Works in Orange and South Hampton Resources in Hardin County.

Total Petrochemicals was cited for 21 air violations documented in a routine inspections conducted in 2007. Of that fine total, $211,720 will be contributed to the Texas Association of Resource Conservation and Development Areas, Inc., to help replace and retrofit older diesel school buses.

South Hampton Resources, Inc., formerly known as South Hampton Refining Company, has been fined $274,433 for a total of 38 various air and industrial and hazardous waste violations. Of that fine total, $137,216 will be contributed to the Texas Association of Resource Conservation and Development Areas, Inc., for water or wastewater assistance.

E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company in Orange, also known as the Sabine River Works, is fined $176,575 for a total of 27 various air, public water supply and water quality violations. Of that fine $88,287 will be contributed to the Ducks Unlimited for reforestation of the Tony Houseman State Park and Wildlife Management Area.
