Beaumont 4th Starts with Gunplay

News KBMT

A Beaumont neighborhood began its 4th of July celebration with gunshots rather than fireworks.

Shortly after 1 a.m. Friday police were called to the Concord Homes in the 2000 block of Cottonwood. When officers arrived they found a 25-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his leg. According to two witnesses at the scene, the shooter left before police arrived. He was driving a White Dodge Spirit.

Investigators say the victim was not cooperative. He was taken to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth and treated for his injuries.

Police took a man and a woman into custody at the scene. A police dispatcher could not say if the two had been charged.

The incident remains under investigation.
