The Texas Department of Public Safety has released new information about a vehicle accident that happened Wednesday in Orange County.
Trooper Stephanie Davis tells KBMT the accident happened just before 3pm. The crash included cars and two Truck Tractor Semi Trailers. Investigators say two additional vehicles received damage from flying debris that spread from the crash.
According to Corporal Teague, Orange County Trooper, the vehicles were stop for construction on Interstate 10 when one Truck Tractor Semi Trailer failed to control speed striking a vehicle from behind. This initial crash was the beginning of the massive pile up on the Interstate.
There were several injuries from this crash. Initial reports from Corporal Teague say there were two critically injured (one male and one female from separate vehicles). All injured people were taken to Memorial Hermann Baptist – Orange, Baptist Hospital in Beaumont and Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth in Beaumont. The names of those taken to area hospitals have not been released.
Both Eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 were closed for around 5 hours. In order to avoid re-closing the Interstate at a later time, Corporal Teague with the assistance of several other Troopers completed the crash reconstruction right after the accident.
The official crash report is expected within 10 days.

working at a major motel in orange i have experience the complaints of every kind of people traveling through this mess on the highway and outsiders arent even happy having long waits in the texas heat and humidity due to wreckage and lanes changing into one lane it is crazy and dep of trans needs to take a good close look and reevaluate the situation.

This traffic situation is getting out of control. Toay 7/4/08 due to traffic congestion on I-10 a car using 105 South to get around the jam was hit by a train and 4-people were seriously injuried or possible deceased. It's a darn shame this work is causing so much pain.

Here's a brilliant idea... Lets finish one state highway project in the ounty before we start another one. Right now every highway is under construction some of them for over two years.

actually, am surprised these accidents don't happen more often. Are there any alternative routes in Vidor, thought Main st. had construction too? What if this was a hurricane evacuation? Is saving money worth more than lives, everyone paying more for gas, not just the rich.
