KBMT crews ride along as officials raid a Vidor animal shelter

News KBMT

Officials say a 59-year-old Vidor man fed more than 40 dogs -- seized Wednesday -- decayed meat.

Jack Houseman faces allegations of animal cruelty and is expected in court today.

Officials from the Orange County Sheriff's Office and Houston Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals seized the dogs from his residence. It's where the -- Have a Heart Refuge -- is located.

The dogs were seen eating meat and bones while others were in cages with molded dog food under their feet -- covered in ants.

Some food was covered in flies and maggots. Houseman said the carcasses came from a slaughter house.

Sheriff's Capt. David Peck said he plans to seek an order to keep Houseman from ever having animals on his property again.
