It's a difference of opinion regarding the best way to expand Lumberton schools. Some want the bond to pass, and others do not. One of those that want people to vote no, is a school board member - the only one opposed to the issue.
"I don't think it's needed right now. I think it's better to wait."
Lumberton ISD school board member Peter Morrison doesn't think the district needs over 28 million dollars in school bonds... and he's not alone. "The citizens need to backup and vote no."
One reason being, the large tax increase that could come after the May 10th vote.
"Taxpayers would pay a 24 percent tax increase, and that would triple our debt. It's just not needed right now." The school board President tells me this bond is needed because these schools are overcrowded, but one board member disagrees.
"As a board member, I've looked at the districts numbers and we have over ten years worth of capacity without additional buildings."
...but that conflicts with what the schools superintendent believes.
"They expect more and more people moving to the community and the district will need more space for students."
Have something to say about the school bond? Talk about it in the discussion forum on www.lumbertoncares.com.

I agree we do not need to raise taxes at this time. Maybe add on, are go with portable buildings. We need to pay our other schools off first. Lumberton needs to fix it's traffic problems more than anything..
