SOUTHEAST TEXAS EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT
Extensive Flooding Anticipated in Beaumont

The Beaumont Office of Emergency Management is concerned with the anticipated flooding event due to the storm surge of Hurricane Ike and its’ effect on Pine Island Bayou and the Neches River.

Specifically, areas east of Pine Street including Manning St., E. Gill, and Pollard are at risk.

Also the following streets have experienced significant flooding in October 2006 and are also at risk: Bigner St., Stonetown, Old Voth, Broadoak, Carpenter, Oak Ridge and Loop Rd.

In Beaumont’s southend, the Terrell Park area is anticipated to flood due to the impact of the storm on Hillebrandt Bayou.

Residents in these areas are urged to evacuate if they have a vehicle in which to evacuate in.

If they cannot evacuate themselves, it is recommended that they seek higher ground.

Shelter should be sought with friends, family members or even co-workers who may have also stayed behind.

Beaumont Police Officers will be going into these neighborhoods and alerting residents to the threat.

They will be using the police car’s public address systems, and talking to those that they encounter as they are driving through these neighborhoods.

Officers will be stressing the importance of either evacuating or seeking higher ground.
