Lamar State College-PA will close through Tuesday

News KBMT

Lamar State College-Port Arthur will close classes and business operations at 5 p.m. Friday, August 29, and will remain closed through Tuesday, Sept. 2, in anticipation of the possible effects of Tropical Storm Gustav, which is predicted to be a hurricane before it comes ashore Tuesday somewhere along the Gulf Coast.

Tom Neal, vice president for Student Affairs at the college, said, "While it is difficult to clearly predict where the storm will make landfall, we decided to announce our closure now so students, faculty and staff won't have to wait to make plans."

Neal said the college currently plans to reopen on Wednesday, Sept. 3.

The latest information about the college will be posted on the college website (www.lamarpa.edu), which will be maintained from a remote site.

Students, faculty and staff also can receive updates through their My.LamarPA.edu webpage and e-mail.

Announcements about the status of the college also will be available by phone at (409) 984-4921 or (800) 877-5872.
